  1. 0:00Choosing a coil size comes down to measurement.
  2. 0:05A coil has two numbers. The inside diameter must exceed the book block, because every sheet turns around it. Pitch is the hole spacing. Charts count sheets, not pages.
  3. 0:17Size from the measured block: count every sheet, ask for paper thickness, add covers and pockets, then about two to three millimeters of turning room. Round up, never down.
  4. 0:30Pitch is fixed at punching. Plastic coil usually takes four holes per inch, matched to the punch. Top binding changes the hole count and safe zone, not the diameter.
  5. 0:42Then read the fit on the sample. Too small: pages drag, covers won't fold flat, holes tear, ends unwind. Too large: pages shift, the block wobbles, the coil snags.
  6. 0:55Send sheets, paper, cover and coil size, not just pages.
